- \IBRAINSTORM--OVERVIEW AND DESCRIPTION\I
-
- Brainstorming is a process which involves listing as many ideas or
- thoughts about a topic that you can. This is an information
- gathering process. All you have to do is list your thoughts, the
- program will automatically number each \Ithot\I (we call them "thots"
- \Iafter\I they are entered into the program) as it is entered.
-
- Because the nature of this function is entering information, the EDIT
- MODE is the most used activity. To access the COMMAND MODE, press
- <ESC>, then you can access the few commands available to you here.
- To return to input, press <A> (to Add a new thot).
-
- If you are using a previous Topic, begin adding by starting with the
- <A> command. This will put you at the end of the list.
- ( <PgUp>, <PgDn>, or <ESC> )
- \ICOMMAND DESCRIPTIONS:\I
-
- When you are in the COMMAND MODE (entire line is in inverse-video),
- the following commands are available to you:
-
- \IA\Idd Add another thot to the list--leaves COMMAND MODE, enters
- EDIT MODE and goes to end of the list.
-
- \ID\Ielete ** THIS FEATURE MARKS, BUT DOES NOT DELETE AT THIS TIME **
- Mark this thot for deletion. You must first place the
- cursor on the thot you wish to have deleted, then press
- <D>. This thot will now be preceded by three asterisks
- (***) to let you know that it is marked for deletion. It
- can't actually be deleted here. It is deleted in the
- UTILITIES Function (F6). If you change your mind, you
- ( <PgUp>, <PgDn>, or <ESC> )
- \IDelete (cont.)\I may remove this marking by again placing the cursor
- on it and then pressing the <D>--the asterisks will
- disappear. When a thot is marked for deletion, it can
- be used in an Outline, but when it is deleted, all items
- grouped under it in the Outline will be deleted from the
- Outline (but not from the list).
-
- \IE\Idit This shifts to the EDIT MODE for the line that the cursor
- is on. Press <ENTER> to enter the change and switch back
- to COMMAND MODE.
-
- \IH\Ielp This command is what got you here!
-

- This Function provides you with an over-lapping of the List Window
- and the Outline Window. Once you have listed your ideas in the
- BRAINSTORM Function, you now select the thots that you think are
- beneficial for use in the Outline.
-
- The List Window is on the left, and the Outline Window is on the
- right. You will select thots from the List by using the UP/DN arrows
- keys to put the cursor ON the thot you want; then you either press
- the <ENTER> or <A> key. \INOTE:\I The <ENTER> shifts you into the
- Arrange Window where you can then move the cursor to locate where you
- want to \IA\IDD the thot. The ADD command in the List Window
- \Iautomatically\I adds the thot, and leaves you in the List window.
-
- ( <PgUp>, <PgDn>, or <ESC> )
-
- This selection process continues until you have placed enough thots
- into the Arrange Window that you can toggle to it (with <ENTER>) and
- begin arranging your outline with movement commands.
-
- You can, if you want, advance to the OUTLINE Function (F5) at this
- point. In that function you can add new thots by pressing <N> for
- NEW (thot). If you do this, you can always return to this (F4)

- three ways to choose activities from this menu.
-
- 1) You may select items by pressing the number key (along the top

- 2) You may use cursor movement (Up & Dn Arrows) to place the cursor
- on the Function, and then press <RETURN>; or...

- the number shown in the menu (e.g., F1 for HELP, F2 for Topics).

- ≥▓+ \IOVERVIEW of THOT-PLAN'r\I
-
- Welcome! THOT-PLAN'r is a software tool for Brainstorming and
- Outlining that you can use to capture your thoughts, and then put
- them into a plan, or outline. Your flow through the program will
- generally follow the sequence of the FUNCTIONS--in the order that
- they are presented in the FUNCTION MENU. \I This menu is never more
- than two keystrokes away (press <ESC> twice).\I
-
- There are eight (8) Functions. Each may be reached through the
- FUNCTION MENU, or by pressing its corresponding Function Key.
- You'll know you're in the COMMAND MODE if the Cursor is in inverse-
- video (a lighted bar across a line). If the cursor is a blinking-
- underscore, you are in EDIT MODE.
-
- (Press <PgDn> for more Help, or <ESC> to exit to Menu)
-
- To go from EDIT MODE to COMMAND MODE, press the <ESC> key.
-
- While in the COMMAND MODE, THOT-PLAN'r uses "mneumonic", or "alpha"
- commands to move your thoughts around. That is, the key used to
- execute a command relates to the \Ifirst letter\I of the command word
- (eg. <H> key for Help, <E> key for Edit, etc.). When you press these
- letters, it doesn't matter if they are "shifted" (capitalized) or
- not--just press the key that shows that letter. A detailed
- description of each command can be found in the COMMAND DESCRIPTION
- section of each Function's Help.
-
- Each Function has Help availble that is specific to it. This Help is
- organized in the following manner. When you press <H> while in the
-
- ( <PgUp>, <PgDn>, or <ESC> )
- COMMAND MODE, a new box (like the one this text is in) opens up. The
- information here is much greater than the box can display, so you
- "scroll" through it with the <Pg Up> and <PgDn> keys, just as you are
- doing here. The first display is a Summary of Commands for that
- Function. This will give you a brief description of what that
- command word stands for.
-
- Pressing the <?> key replaces the Status Display with a list of the
- command words, but doesn't tell you what they mean. The summary in
- HELP will give a brief description of each command. A more complete
- explanation is given further down in the COMMAND DESCRIPTION section.
-
-
- ( <PgUp>, <PgDn>, or <ESC> )
- Between the SUMMARY OF COMMANDS and the COMMAND DESCRIPTION sections
- is a brief OVERVIEW of the Function which describes its purpose and
- the nature of activities that take place there.
-
- After the COMMAND DESCRIPTION section, there is a section which will
- give you helpful hints and shortcuts.
-
- THOT-PLAN'r uses \Iwindowing technology\I to give you the structure
- necessary to accomplish your Brainstorming, Listing, and Outlining
- tasks quickly and efficiently. These "windows" are framed boxes
- which contain either information, or a work-space, for you. The
- window across the top of this screen is referred to as the "Status
- Display". The small box in the upper-left corner of this window
- will always show you what Function you are currently in.
-
- ( <PgUp>, <PgDn>, or <ESC> )
-
- The horizontal box to the right of it will show you the topic,
- unless it is still undefined. The box below these contains a
- "message line" for various messages and helpful information.
-
- Start by selecting or creating a Topic (F2). Once you have this
- topic, it will remain the topic until you either select a new one,
- or exit the program. The label you give this topic will be
- displayed on the top line of the Status Display.
-
- When you have the Topic selected you may then perform any of the
- other functions. You may wish to modify the Outline indices before
- going any further. If this is the case, go to UTILITIES by either
- returning to the FUNCTION MENU (press <ESC>) for selection, or you
- can go directly there by pressing <F6>.

- 6) And finally, if you are interested in helping us promote our
- products, you may become a Licensed Distributor. For a small
- licensing fee, you will be sent a Distributor's Kit, which includes a
- diskette with \Iyour own I.D. number compiled into it\I. You will then
- receive a commission for all registered owners who apply with your
- I.D. Individuals, Retailers, Companies, Schools, and Non-profit
- Organizations may apply. This could be a great "passive" fund-
- raiser. Once you "share it around", we do the rest!
-
- The Distributor's License will allow you to make a commission on
- every paid licensee that registers with your I.D. number. You must
- have a User's License to request information about this. \IAsk for a
